HEALTH AND SAFETY CODES (Kunming)

AFTER A couple of hours in the internet cafe - watching the sun go down and the clientelle numbers go up - we headed out in search of dinner.

We entered an area, the road of which appeared to have become a warzone, the restaurants and shops on either side continuing to operate as normal.

Workmen slaved with picks and shovels in ditches - some of whom looked genuinely exhausted. Nearby, a man wearing a suit and a hard-hat sat in a deskchair - his shoes propped up on a pile of bricks. Jo grinned and remarked,
"I'm not saying anything."

As we walked onward, dodging honking trucks filled with dirt and the odd violently swinging bucket of an excavator Jo remarked, "Oh man - if only the health and safety boys from work could see this!"
