SINGING IN THE RAIN (Bus from Zhong Dian to Dequin)

I'VE OFTEN enjoyed singing in the shower. As you hit different pitches you find the local harmonics of the enclosure and the room - making your voice soar in amplitude. Thankfully, unlike Karoke - you are your sole audience.

As we sat on the bus - the TV up front showed a series of local music videos. Men and women standing on mountains estolling the virtues of blue sky, big mountains, the circle of life and the astounding greatness of yak-herding. Their squeaky voices soon found all the local harmonics of our bus, leaving Jo and Kathryn just hoping it would all be over soon.

Kathryn has provided a better translation of some of the music than my creative attempt. She says it means 'The Tibet Race and the Han Chinese Race (like Jo) are one people'.

Imagine if the Australian government tried this kind of propaganda. I can just imagine Guy Sebastian singing the virtues of Employee Law reform - or Savage Garden belting out high-pitched praises of the GST. What baloney!
