80'S CASIO KEYBOARDS (Zhong Dian)

THERE IS something about South East Asian taxi drivers and local ripoffs of bad 80s music. Almost a connection of demand and supply. In Singapore a year ago our driver turned up the radio when a local rendition of 'Sealed With a Kiss' came on. The driver swayed his head to the music - Jo and I could barely contain our cringes.

Our taxi driver today grabbed our bags with gusto. "Orkay!" he said, proudly after loading each bag. "Orkay!" he said, as I slammed my door. He then turned up the radio.

The primitive synthesiser chords of an 80's Casio keyboard filled our ears - punctuated with the odd 2-chord guitar riff. 80's man! Jo says she reckons it sounds like Ric Ashley.

Hey, I used to be Rick Ashely's number one fan: "never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down, never gonna run around and desert you..." This might be due to almost every school holiday spent in HK in the 80s where all the english songs were Top 40 bop songs.
