SCOTTISH TARTAN (Zhong Dian)

AT THE Easter show you'll find a table with a man offering to sell you a plaque with your family name coat of arms on it - enscribed with the family name motto underneath in Latin. The historical accuracy of these is dubious, but they do bring a superficially comforting sense of identity.

In a similar vein, peopel with Scottish Ancestry who travel to Scotland, often bring back a sample of their family tartan. Any moderately serious student of Scottish history will tell you that these were invented long after the clans had any significance - but they do bring a comforting sense of identity.

In the same way - I doubt that fluro pink is the traditional headress colour of Yunnan Tibetan Women.
